Episode #6: [PODCAST MINI-SERIES] Stage 4 - Why Getting Teachers Support is Non-Negotiable

January 15, 2020 by Julia Rose

Stage 4 on The Path of Progress is all about: "Support."

This is not news to you, and yet, it still bears repeating: Teachers need support.

Professional and Personal supports.

Because if you are going to be working with traumatized students, you are going to be professionally and personally challenged. There are no if's, and's or but's about it.

Now, bear with me here... I know some of you are already thinking: Well, Duh, Julia Rose! But how in the world do we convince our administrators or district reps that they need to fit this into the budget?

Well, before we even get to that, I want to be clear that YOU understsand why this is so essential.

SO ESSENTIAL, in fact... it's non-negotiable.

Tune in to this week's episode to learn why teachers figuring out ways to get these support structures in place is so essential for effective and sustainable trauma-informed teaching.

And if you're wanting to track where YOU are in Stage 4: Support, take a look at each of these sub-stages to determine where you are today and where you'll be moving to next:

  • Early-Stage: You are starting to understand our evolutionary wiring for support-systems, and the modern constraints to receiving these.
  • Mid-Stage: You take a comprehensive personal and professional self-care assessment.
  • End-Stage: You develop personal and professional self-care plans and put these structures in place.

This week’s episode is really centered around identifying, building and honing your relational skills, and so I hope you'll identify where you are in this stage and how it'll apply to your work.

In it, you’ll learn…

  1. Why crafting this "Toolbox" is only going to help you while you're at the front of your classroom.
  2. Some of the skill-building trainings that you can take.
  3. Each sub-stage within Stage 2, and how you can identify where you are now!
