I wish I’d known what I know now back when I was the young, traumatized kid who felt like the world was against her and nobody cared.
The kid acting out, getting kicked out of class, suspended, and slowly watching my potential slip through the cracks. I wasn’t bad or broken; I was carrying more than a child ever should, and what I needed most were adults who could see beyond my behavior to what was going on underneath.
Now, after years of personal healing, which then led to professional training as a trauma therapist, becoming a trauma program director, and today helping educators transform their classrooms, I’ve learned just how powerful trauma-informed care can be. It doesn’t just change students’ lives—it changes teachers’ lives and entire school cultures, too.
